Indian Railways operates the fourth largest railway network in the world with 68,000 kilometres of route-length, around 1,00,000 kilometres of running tracks and over 12.5 lakh employees. In the financial year 2019-20 it transported over 8 billion people and hauled 1.2 billion tonnes of freight across the country. With such huge traffic comes a huge responsibility for the safety and security of the people and goods travelling on it. Consequently safety has always been a focus area for Indian Railways since its early days. This article discusses some of the latest initiatives in the field of railway safety.Downloads
