Research Directorate
The Research wing of an organization should be dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of how society and economy works. Our Research department has been continuously striving towards the enrichment of the core of knowledge on cost and management accounting and to the cost and management accounting practices in industry, business, government and society. The Research Directorate of the erstwhile Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India started its operation since September, 1969 and with its initiation the Directorate consisted of a Research Director and three Assistant Directors of Research having a secretariat comprising a Stenographer and a Junior Assistant. It has been an earnest endeavour to bring organized Research in the mainstream of activities of the profession.Mission
The Directorate of Research, Innovation & Journal would continually strive for resolving specific problems of the stakeholders by providing knowhow and formulating appropriate strategy in the best interest of the stakeholders.
Vision
To be the most sought after source by the Government and Corporate Sector for conduct of research in the field of Cost and Management Accounting and allied areas. Afterwards, the findings will be carefully recorded and percolated to other persons interested in the problem Focus of the Directorate of Research & Innovation is on delivering research work on contemporary and enduring areas in the field of cost and management accounting and financial management, for the benefit Corporate, Government and the Society in decision making, planning, and control and to support and promote research to enhance productivity, efficiency and innovation in the concerned fields.
Objectives
To conduct research in a systematic way, gathering new data from primary or first-hand sources or using existing data for a new purpose which requires true observation and description by using carefully designed procedures and rigorous analysis. Research Study will emphasize on the development of generalizations, principles or theories that will help in understanding, prediction and/or control of the stakeholders and the users as a whole.
Innovation attempts to find out an objective, unbiased solution to the problem and takes initiatives to validate the procedures employed. The process should be a deliberate and painstaking activity which is directional but often refines the problem or questions as the research progresses.
To consider numerous thinking techniques both rational and creative and to work on real life issues involving key sectors of the economy.

The Management Accountant Journal
The pioneering Journal of the Institute, “The Management Accountant” had been published since 1966. This was introduced with the intention to bring out the CMA professionals to ethically drive enterprises globally by creating value to stakeholders in the socio-economic context through competencies drawn from the integration of strategy, management and accounting. The Journal entering its 49th year in 2014 is getting published regularly keeping in mind the needs of the Cost and Management Accountants (CMA), and provides wide knowledge on the recent developments and changes in the global and national financial and economic scenario. The wide circulation and valuable inputs from academician, researchers and industry stalwarts are the keys to success for this Journal. The rich contents in Journal keep informed the readers with sound professional ethics and keep abreast of new developments.Earlier to the publication of “The Management Accountant”, the Institute started publishing a monthly Journal in the year 1955 with the name “The Cost & Works Accountant”. During that period, emphasis had been given to articles having relevance and direct or indirect bearing on the Cost and Management Accountancy profession. The Journal was a very important organ of the Institute which bridged the gap between the members and the Institute. It played a vital role in keeping well informed about the profession. The Journal acted as an endeavour in making it responsive to the growing needs and demands of the society and thus created a satisfying surrounding for all segments of readership.
