Abstract

Expanding banking services alone, in the further pockets of the country, is unlikely to lead to financial inclusion. Covering the population with insurance services is equally important. Considerable economic and social development has taken place in India, since independence, and courtesy the Five-year Plans. However, even today, a large numbers of people live below the poverty line especially in rural areas, largely because of the size of our economy and regional disparities.
