A Curate's Egg: Indirect Taxation Changes in the Union Budget

Abstract

The Budget changes in Indirect taxation reveal an anxiety to bail out the manufacturing sector and in the bargain the services industry has been made to bear the cross. The tax changes are a veritable mixed bag. The tinkering with concessions in sevice tax here and there is even smaller than usually this year. But what takes the cake is the sheer number of unpleasant tidings on this tax.
