The paper seeks to analyse the trend in efficiency of life insurance companies operating in India since economic global recession in 2007-08. The paper also makes an attempt to rank individual life insurance company based on their relative performances in the years following economic global recession. Hence, the study covers the period during 2008-09 to 2016-17. Life insurance companies operating during this period have been identified and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) technique is used to estimate their efficiency. In view of this, it is concluded that economic recession affected the sector as a whole, though some of the companies with large clientele still managed to uphold their performance during the turbulent time.Downloads
