Abstract

After being declared in the last year’s union budget as the government’s new public health protection scheme, Ayushman Bharat has crossed one year since its announcement. Apart from the commitment of a huge financial burden, a few state governments only have either not signed or not launched the scheme even after giving the initial nod. Recently a few state governments decided to withdraw from the scheme even after having launched it. Such apathetic stand of the state governments in respect of the scheme is more because of the lack of political consensus. This mars the scheme’s potentiality to protect the socially and occupationally deprived population of the country from any possible health hazard.
