There is an announcement that a committee is being set up to suggest reforms in taxation under the Chairmanship of Justice R.V.Easwar, a former judge of the Delhi High Court and a past President of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal. It is a welcome step as it may be expected that the reform processes will be on and not be a rehash of the present law, which is a poor patchwork of periodical undigested amendments. A simplified law with accountability on the part of administration would ensure development of trade and industry. The choice of the Chairman is commendable as he is a person, who has an excellent track record as a tax advocate and a tax judge.Downloads
