"The benefits of full, effective competition in the financial sector are enhanced efficiency, the provision of better products to final consumers, greater innovation, lower prices and improved international competitiveness. Greater competition also enables efficient banks to enter markets and expand, displacing inefficient banks. Competition should therefore be encouraged, facilitated and protected within the financial sector where it is appropriate. This includes the removal of unnecessary restrictions to competition, which can provide a major source of rents for banks." Competition and financial markets: key findings, OECD.Downloads
