Abstract

'The Indian banking sector has been witnessing rising NPAs over the last few years. While research has focused on identifying reasons - whether environmental, or systemic, the Reserve Bank of India has been working on various mechanisms whereby stressed bank assets can be reconverted into being productive. Thus, the Indian banking system has seen a slew of measures over the last few years to combat the NPA issue. This article reviews these measures as the banking sector goes through a transition over the last decade culminating with the Insolvency and Bankruptcy code being passed recently this year.'
